Kits for Dyna Rebuilds

Learn about electronics, have fun and save money by building your own equipment.

Choose a kit over a factory-wired unit because it can be an enjoyable and satisfying project, not just to save money. We have kit versions of selected products to provide you with the chance to build them yourself and be proud of the results—you have few other opportunities to do this with audio electronics.

You need not know electronics or circuit design, just how to carefully follow directions and be willing to do tidy solder and assembly work.

Thousands of our customers have successfully built our do-it-yourself kit projects with no problems at all. All of our kit projects have thoroughly debugged instructions. There are no mistakes, addenda, or blind corners. All kits have easy-to-follow, complete, step-by-step instructions, along with all support data (wiring pictorial diagrams—most color-coded, schematic diagrams, board layouts, and troubleshooting advice).

You can purchase just the kit plans first (typical cost $30, available for many kits). The cost of the plans will then apply to the cost of the kit itself as long as the plans are current, so you have nothing to lose. Study the plans to determine for yourself if you are ready to try the project and feel free to call us with your questions.

We offer a free checkout of your completed kit project, and will guarantee that it will work well, as long as you followed the instructions. All you pay is round trip shipping. We want to see the unit before you ever plug it in. We run the equipment up slowly on a variable AC power supply. We can catch any problem before it can cause component damage. Minor assembly problems will be fixed free of charge. Major calamities can be fixed, too. In the worst case the maximum cost would be the difference between the kit and factory-wired price. Enjoy!

Rebuild kits for older Dyna equipment

If the metalwork and transformers in your old Dyna equipment are in good shape, then you can rebuild the electronics and get state-of-the art performance with these rebuild kits. The old circuits are replaced with completely re-engineered modern circuits of our own design.

Complete do-it-yourself rebuild kits are available for the following Dyna products:

Guidelines for rebuilding older equipment: example Dyna PAS preamplifier

With the old Dyna PAS vacuum tube preamplifier the savings are dependent upon how much you do yourself and how up-to-date you want to make it. If you have a good original unit then it makes sense to install our basic Super Pas Three kit and enjoy thoroughly modern vacuum tube performance.

There is an upper limit to what you should do to a PAS though, defined by the price of our complete new Transcendence Eight preamp. The new T8 includes new tubes, new gold jacks, a premium selector switch, 15 amp modern polarized AC outlets, and functions unavailable on the old PAS chassis, such as tape-to-tape monitoring capability, and a built-in headphone amplifier. Because the old PAS chassis is labor-intensive to work on, if you had us install the Super Pas Three kit instead of doing it yourself and added factory-installed gold jacks, new tubes, and a new selector switch too, your total cost would be comparable to buying a new factory-wired Transcendence Eight preamp. That wouldn’t make sense as the new T8 is a much nicer unit overall.

Kit Rebuild Plans Are Available Separately

If you want to build any of our kits but are not sure of what is involved, purchase just our construction plans (available for many of our kits). The plans include parts lists, schematics, wiring layouts, step-by-step instructions, and all of the general advice and wiring guidelines. You can learn what tools and skills are required, the complexity of the project, and the thoroughness of our guidance. The price of the plans will be credited against the cost of that kit if you then decide to go ahead and purchase it—provided that the instructions are still current for that kit.

If you are a real do-it-yourselfer, you can purchase just our bare PC cards with plans for most kits and furnish all of your own parts. Please call for availability and pricing.
