Biro L/1 — Nothing better at 4 times the price

Biro L/1

The Biro Technology L/1 is a high performance loudspeaker designed for the discerning music lover and audiophile seeking state-of-the-art performance in a compact and affordable package. The L/1 is able to set new standards of performance for a product of this class through meticulous engineering and careful cost/benefit analyses. Some of the technical features you'll find in the L/1 include:

An "open-air" mounted high frequency driver. This mounting method eliminates most of the diffractive re-radiation of high frequency energy present in conventional systems. It also permits the alignment in time of both high and mid/bass drivers. You will hear this as sweeter, more transparent highs, significantly improved imaging, and an elimination of the lower treble roughness that has come to be taken for granted in conventional designs. While the technology required to manufacture a driver suitable for open-air mounting is relatively expensive, the results are clearly worth it.

A long-throw 170 mm (6.7") mid /bass driver with extra-long voice coil. The L/l's mid /bass driver has a maximum output comparable to many 200 mm (8") drivers but with the midrange performance of a smaller driver. Midrange performance is further enhanced by the mineral loaded polymer matrix cone and high-loss rubber surround.

True 4th-order, in-phase crossovers. The L/1 uses crossovers that are truly phase-coherent through the crossover region, minimizing changes in frequency response with vertical displacement. This combined with the simple two-driver, two-way topology results in the smoothest possible reverberant response and uncolored reproduction in any listening environment. Additionally, the steep 4th-order responses reduce intermodulation distortion compared to less steep 2nd or 3rd-order networks. You will hear this as cleaner transients and more transparent sound.

Supplemental resistive damping of driver chassis and mounting assemblies. This process dramatically reduces spurious mechanical resonances in both mid/bass and high-frequency drivers for much cleaner sound.
